Optovue’s RTVue is at the cutting edge of technology and has features that enable us to discover even subtle losses in your optic nerve and retina and to follow these losses over time. This information helps with early detection of eye diseases and assists us to monitor the disease’s progression to determine the best preventive action plan.
The RTVue is a next generation Fourier-Domain (also known as Spectral-Domain) OCT as opposed to the older generation Time-Domain instruments. This means twice the resolution down to an incredible 5 micron (a thousandth of a milimetre) at 65 times the speed (26,000 scans per second).
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is considered to be the “silent thief of sight.” There are no symptoms until the end stages of glaucoma in most variations of the disease. Therefore, it is critical for all patients to have routine eye examinations with special attention to evaluation for eye diseases such as glaucoma.
Diabetes
The early signs of diabetic retinopathy Diabetes are often discovered on a routine eye examination. These early signs are usually changes in the blood vessels of the retina. These vessels then leak causing retinal swelling and bleeding within the eye. This causes loss of vision. This swelling is very difficult to see, but with RTVue digital imaging, the swelling and bleeding can be located and proper treatment can be prescribed.
ARMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration)
Loss of vision with aging is one of the most feared afflictions. For numerous reasons, age-related macular degeneration is becoming a major problem in health care. In most cases, total loss of vision is very unlikely, especially if the signs of macular degeneration are detected early.
