“80-90% of learning is through vision”
Clear sight is important but comfortable vision even more so. Seeing well on a test chart doesn’t necessarily mean the visual system is working well and visual stress can express itself as a range of symptoms such as:
- Blurred vision at near
- Double vision
- Sees worse at the end of the day
- Burning, itchy, watery eyes
- Headaches or eye ache with near work
- Falls asleep reading
- Words run together when reading
- Skips lines or repeats lines when reading
- Dizziness or light headedness or sick feeling with near work
- Head tilt or closing one eye when reading
- Holds reading too close
- Omits small words when reading
- Trouble keeping attention on reading
- Avoidance of reading or near work
- Reading comprehension weakness
- Misaligns digits in columns of numbers
- Writes uphill or downhill or drifts off margin
- Difficulty completing assignments on time
- Says “I can’t “ before trying
- Difficulty copying from the board
- Poor eye-hand (poor handwriting)
- Avoids sports/games
- Inconsistent or poor performance in sports
- Does not judge distances/speed accurately
- Clumsy, knocks things over
- Does not use time well
- Does not accept changes easily
- Loses papers, belongings
- Car sickness / motion sickness
- Forgetful or poor memory
We assess the visual system using a combination of behavioural Optometry which looks at the way each eye works individually and then again at how they integrate together, and a computerised system called Orthoscopics which allows us to accurately modify the primary colours (red, green and blue) that the visual system responds to, which means we can calculate your optimal colour response.
It is now commonly accepted that colour can have a dramatic results in Visual Perceptual Disorders such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Migraine and if this is found to be the case the tint is then transposed into a pair of glasses that match your colour profile.
Our instrument covers a wider range of tints than older systems and the correct colours can stabilise the visual system and relieve symptoms. The BBC documentary “My Family and Autism” showed the remarkable affects the right tint can have.

If it is found that components of the visual system are not working properly or the eyes are not working well together then vision training and/or special glasses may be recommended. Learn more about Vision Training here or visit www.babo.co.uk or www.covd.org
There is unfortunately no NHS funding for these evaluations and they are charged at £195 for the assessment and £100 for reports.
